  • Seats and frames: 1/2″ plywood

Metric Version

  • Bottom and sides: 9 mm plywood

Construction Method

The boat is designed for straightforward plywood and timber construction. The hull is assembled upside down, making it easier to position and align the frames, bottom, sides, and other main structural components before turning the hull over for installation of the deck, seats, floor, and interior equipment.

This construction method is well suited to home workshops and does not require previous professional boat-building experience.

Easy Hand-Cut Build

The 1648 Long Deck has been designed to be very easy to cut by hand. The relatively simple plywood shapes can be prepared using common woodworking tools such as a jigsaw, circular saw, router, and basic hand tools.

CNC equipment is not required, making this design a practical choice for DIY builders who prefer traditional manual cutting and assembly.

Difficulty Level

Difficulty level: Easy.

The simple hull geometry, upside-down construction method, and easy-to-cut plywood components make this design particularly suitable for first-time and beginner boat builders. Basic woodworking skills are recommended, but previous boat-building experience is not required.
