Description
2070 Aluminum Jon Boat Plans
The 2070 Aluminum Jon Boat is a large, stable, and heavy-duty welded aluminum boat designed for fishing, recreational use, transport, and practical utility applications. With an overall length of 20′ (5.95 m), a beam of 86″ (2.20 m), and a wide 71″ (1.80 m) chine, this design provides excellent stability and a spacious interior.
The boat is designed for 40–115 HP outboard engines and can accommodate up to five persons. Its 5° deadrise provides a good balance between stability, shallow-water performance, and improved handling in moderate chop.

Construction Method
The 2070 is designed as a fully welded aluminum structure. The hull is assembled upside down, allowing the frames, longitudinals, bottom panels, and side panels to be positioned accurately before the hull is turned over for installation of the floor, seating, and other interior components.
The heavy-duty structural arrangement and substantial aluminum plating provide the strength required for a large 20-foot Jon Boat. Accurate fitting, tack welding, regular dimensional checks, and a controlled welding sequence are important to maintain hull geometry and minimize heat distortion.
Difficulty Level
Difficulty level: Medium.
The project is recommended for builders with basic to intermediate aluminum fabrication and welding experience. Previous boat-building experience is helpful but not essential for builders who are comfortable cutting, fitting, and welding aluminum plate and structural members.
Power and Transom
The boat is designed for a 20″ (508 mm) long-shaft outboard engine. The transom has a 12° inclination angle, and the recommended engine range is 40–115 HP.
Spacious Floor Area
The available floor area measures approximately 46″ x 141″ (1.19 x 3.60 m), providing plenty of usable space for fishing equipment, coolers, batteries, storage, seating, and passengers.
The open interior layout makes the boat easy to adapt for different purposes, including fishing, recreational boating, equipment transport, and general utility work.
Fishing and Utility Use
The wide chine, large displacement capacity, and five-person capacity make the 2070 a practical platform for anglers and users who need a strong, spacious aluminum boat.
Its combination of stability, open deck space, and substantial engine capacity makes it suitable for lakes, rivers, inland waterways, and sheltered waters.
