Center Console
The center steering console provides a comfortable driving position while leaving clear passage on both sides of the cockpit. This arrangement is especially practical for fishing, allowing easy movement between the bow and stern.
The console provides space for the steering system, engine controls, switches, gauges, and marine electronics while maintaining an open and functional deck layout.
Aluminum Construction
Imperial Version
- Bottom and sides: 5/32″ aluminum
- Frames and longitudinals: 3/16″ aluminum
- Seats, console, and floor: 1/8″ aluminum
- Keel and transom: 3/8″ aluminum
Metric Version
- Bottom and sides: 4 mm aluminum
- Frames and longitudinals: 5 mm aluminum
- Seats, console, and floor: 3 mm aluminum
- Keel and transom: 10 mm aluminum
Construction Method
The 2070 is designed as a fully welded aluminum structure. The hull is assembled upside down, allowing the frames, longitudinals, bottom panels, and side panels to be positioned and aligned accurately before the hull is turned over for installation of the floor, center console, seating, and other interior components.
Accurate fitting, tack welding, dimensional checks, and a controlled welding sequence are important to maintain hull geometry and reduce heat distortion during fabrication.
Difficulty Level
Difficulty level: Medium.
The project is suitable for builders with basic to intermediate aluminum fabrication and welding experience. Previous boat-building experience is helpful but not required for builders who are comfortable cutting, fitting, and welding aluminum plate and structural components.
Power and Transom
The boat is designed for a 20″ (508 mm) long-shaft outboard engine. The transom has a 12° inclination angle, and the recommended engine range is 40–115 HP.
Fishing and Utility Use
The wide hull and open center-console layout provide plenty of usable space for fishing equipment, coolers, batteries, storage, seating, and passengers. Clear access around the console makes the boat especially practical for anglers who need to move freely around the cockpit.
With a maximum displacement of 2,910 lbs (1,320 kg) and capacity for up to five persons, the 2070 is suitable as a fishing platform, recreational boat, or practical aluminum utility boat.
